Its that time of year again, autumn is well and truly here!
We made a first visit to The Malvern Autumn Show a couple of weeks ago.
As well as wanting a fun and interesting day out I was also looking for inspiration for a garden re-design. I suppose its a bit like home decorating. After a while, you just think a change would be good. Now don’t get me wrong. We have the tiniest garden and its not acres of landscaping.
Its several years since I had been to a Malvern Show and I had forgotten just how inspirational and fascinating it is.
First port of call was The Harvest Pavilion and wow what an amazing display of the hugest and most perfect of fruit, flowers and vegetables in the ‘grow to show’ competition with great expert advice on hand for enthusiastic gardeners. It really was a spectacle.
There is so much to do for all the family with a vintage fair for the kids and lots of fun for all the family in The Activity Arena with duck herding demonstrations, dog agility and classic cars and much, much more.
So, obviously, the place for me to head for is The Food Hall. As well as food-to-go stalls there was an impressive display of food offerings from the likes of British and Irish cheese from Neil’s Yard Dairy, some friends of The Broadway Food Festival, Crunchy Seeds. Over the weekend there were some stars of the culinary industry demonstrating at The Cookery Theatre including Tom Kerridge of The Hand and Flowers in Marlow and Mark Stinchcombe from Eckington Manor. Mark is a highly talented local chef who won Master Chef: The Professionals in 2015. I have dinner booked at Eckington Manor in November, so watch this space for a review!
There is an endless variety of activities going on as well as some great suppliers. So it was off to get some ideas for my new and teeny weeny garden. Mrs H has an obsession with hydrangeas, agapanthus and aliums and so anything for a quiet life. We made some great purchases of a selection of hydrangeas including my particular favourite, ‘Pinky Winky’.
The garden is now sorted and we are very, very happy.
We can’t wait for The Spring Show next year.
Join us for an evening of Spanish food at The Lifford Hall, Broadway on 22nd November. Further details to follow.
